July Farm Newsletter!

The farm is in full, crazy summer gear. Produce is cranking along with the beautiful sunshine. Tomatoes are within reach dear friends!!! SO SO close! Hoping within 10-14 days they will enter shares. Peppers look to be about 3 weeks off. Eggplants maybe a month. Corn is almost waist high so its coming along nicely. Lots of great things on the horizon. This is shaping up to be a great season. We are so happy after such a wet, cold start. It humbles us and reminds us that amazing things come when we are patient and keep our noses to the grindstone pressing on through all the challenges. Last year it was gophers, this It will always be something, but us farmers are learning with each passing season to be more resilient.

Join us eating the rainbow to vibrant health for our Organic Summer 2 CSA!! Limited spots available, reserve your organic weekly veggies at the link below! Share with your friends! GREAT price for delicious, seasonal, local veggies!! This season runs July 22-Sept 23rd:) We accept SNAP and Albany Farmer's market pick up will match your SNAP money up to $10, which covers HALF your share if you are picking up a small!!!!! AMAZING deal. Our current customers are already boasting "accidentally losing 12 lbs since CSA started," "My digestion is improved and I am regular," "I have lost so many inches since eating all these veggies," and "My energy is improved from all the juicing we are doing, I feel amazing." Our customers are thrilled and we are right alongside them feeling the wellness. It takes a lot of strength and energy being 4 months pregnant and running a full CSA with Farmer's Market. These veggies truly power me through each and every day! We literally only have  a couple of spots for summer 2 so if you are interested, sign up quick!

Some of our harvesting so far!

We will have eggs at all our drops if you decide to join. They are not certified organic like our veggies, but they are fed mostly our veggies and given some commercial feed to keep them laying well. $4 a dozen. This is entirely our son Everett's business. He runs everything chicken related from feeding, watering, collecting and cleaning eggs to selling :) He keeps a great little flock of healthy girls.

Another thing, I will bring a handful of these awesome CSA boxes to each drop in case anyone is interested. They will be available for purchase for a modest $8. They are taking up space and we thought many of you may like them as they make veggie transport super easy, they fold closed with handles and fold flat for easy storage when not in use. Super easy to clean. They are used, but in pretty good shape with many years use left on them. :)

Market this week:)

Baby 9 is Looking Girlie Maybe?

kind of Flat nub????  11 weeks

 Giving us the bird! #futurerockerbaby
We went today for a free ultrasound as an ultrasound model for a local pregnancy clinic training day. It was a great experience, there were 2 different nurses ultrasounding me getting their training time in. I made an interesting candidate with my extremely retroflexed uterus. They said I was a great teaching tool. Baby was rolling, flipping, kicking and going wild. Everett was this way in utero also, he came out quite the wiry little thing.  Baby's nub appears to be maybe flat at 11 weeks, however, it is still very early. I feel, based on intuition, it is a girl based on symptoms and instincts. We will be able to confirm in 2 weeks at the NT scan. Then.........let the shopping begin!

This Week on the Farm

We took full advantage of a beautiful spring day and enjoyed the 60 degree sunshine with copious hours in the outdoors:)
BryleeAnne swinging her heart out in her fancy dress!
While it didn't dry out a ton, we were able to pull back tarps and get 12 beds of carrots, peas, radish, mustard, arugula, tatsoi and cilantro planted. We also managed to get 1200 lettuce transplants in the greenhouse ground as well.
The greenhouses are OVERflowing with goodies

Taking advantage of 2 rare sunny March days here in Oregon.
We partnered up with Dig Fit this week and will be doing a cooking class there April 6th!
Kayla managed to get 2 vehicles and our tractor stuck in the goop. Teen drivers.....lord help us all! This was right before the sunny days hit.
 Getting seeds in the ground.
Open Farm Day was a HUGE success. It poured rain, but around 90 people showed up to enjoy baby goats, hot cocoa and roam the farm.

We even got to take a break during the sunshine and head to a friend's birthday party!

It was a fabulous, eventful week and we are grateful for the couple of warm, sunny days. The rain is back full force and not many signs of it letting up. For now, we keep planting and filling our propagation room:)

Straight talk from the farmers about CSA

To anyone curious about joining CSA,

We have all seen the hashtags, #knowyourfarmer #knowyourfood #friendafarmer and they bring joy to us each time someone posts them. If you have participated in the past or plan to in the future, we encourage you to get out to the farm and really know where your food comes from. CSA is a beautiful, concrete way of connecting you and your farmers(us). Think about each cell in your body being nourished all season by the highly nutrient dense food we produce straight from our soils. Amazing connection right?

Nathan and I hope that with every delivery you pick up and prepare into meals, you will feel more than just box weights or fresh taste. We want you to know we are bringing you our best and hope you can sense our intentions, love and care.....and are healthier for it. I know we carry away so much more than merely an exchange of money for food. CSA members become friends, some like family, loving and caring for us in ways we can't explain. We are blessed to have people like you who appreciate who we are, what we do and how we execute it. This is by far, the most amazing and important job we could ever hope for.Thank YOU!

Our relationship through CSA is unique. As the farmers, we plan, grow and harvest our very best produce for you, send weekly emails full of recipes, post food pics and connect with you through our farm Facebook members group, update you about farm happenings, bloopers, share in the joys of abundance and the frustration of the dogs days of summer. We want you to feel our appreciation, inclusion and real connection to where and how your produce came to be. Our mission statement, "Improving lives through sustainable agriculture," came to be out of a strong desire to change food availability and health. With junk food related illness rampant in our culture, growing organic produce feels like one small way we can be a part of a big revolution of change. We and you are resisting chemical laden corporate America by changing what we eat. I guess that makes us both defiant.....let our demand for real foods be known!

National #CSAsignupday arrives Friday, this is the largest day nation wide for CSA sign ups. It is our honor to be moving into another season which will include lots of new members and bring back many familiar faces. Don't hesitate to ask any questions. The reason for CSA sign ups now is so that we, your farmers, will have the capital to invest in an amazing season filled with nutritious veggies and begin the cycle of friendship and community anew. As I always say, our CSA members are the "Cream of the Crop!"
